IK4 debates the challenges of storing renewable energies

10/11/2018 |<img src="http://www.ik4.es/upload/noticias/img/almacenamiento_renovables.jpg" data-link="" /> The Technological Alliance is organising a seminar to analyse challenges facing the sector. The session, to take place next 24 October at the Scientific-Technological Park of Gipuzkoa, addresses companies, universities and research institutions. The encounter seeks to disseminate the latest technological tendencies, share knowledge, and present the public policies developed in this field.

Who can control the intensity of solar rays or the strength the wind blows? The answer to this question is, nobody – and that reality poses one of the main inconveniences of exploiting and using wind and solar energy: the lack of control over renewable energy sources.

Regarding the origin of the problem – the workings of nature itself – there is little room for the influence of scientific research, but in fields such as achieving an efficient energy storage that makes it possible to guarantee electric power at times when there is neither wind nor sunlight, technological advances can make significant contributions.

To analyse the latest technological novelties applied to this field and to debate future challenges, the IK4 Technological Alliance has organised the seminar, “Electrical Storage of Renewable Energies: A pending concern”, to take place next 24 October in the OronaFundazioa building, located in the Gipuzkoa Scientific-Technological Park.

The session, to be moderated by the IK4 scientific director Javier Laucirica, boasts the presence of outstanding representatives from the energy sector, such as the Basque Energy Entity (Ente Vasco de la Energía, EVE) or the Spanish Photovoltaic Union (Unión Española Fotovoltaica, UNEF), who will participate as speakers.

Also sharing their experience and capabilities in this field are the technological centres of the Alliance, CEITIKERLAN eta TEKNIKER.

Seminar day, which will begin at 9:30 in the morning, closes with a discussion amongst the speakers and an open forum, to strengthen the debate and the exchange of points of view.

Moreover, after the encounter closes, staff from the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial, CDTI) shall remain at the disposal of people interested in obtaining information on the aid provided by this agency to start up R+D+i projects applied to the field of energy storage.
