How to recover a down jacket

How to recover a down jacket. The ability to retrieve a down jacket and leave it as new is not something too difficult. It really just depends on dedication and time, as well as patience. First of all, it is best to take it to a dry cleaner, but many times the store is too far or too expensive, so it is best to wash the down jacket at home. And it is like new!

If you follow the following instructions exactly, which are made up of three cleaning phases, then you will have a down jacket in perfect condition, almost packaged.

Phase 1

The down jacket can be washed in a washing machine that has a program for synthetic clothing at a temperature of 30ºC. You can use the detergent of your choice and, if you want it to be in perfect condition, you can wash it with any other garment. And if you want to air the down even more as it is being washed, then add two tennis balls, completely clean (preferably new), in the washing machine.

If the down is very dirty, rinse the water twice.

Phase 2

Once you have finished with the washing, you must remove the down jacket from the washing machine and that is when you will be scared to think that the down has disappeared, but the truth is that it is not like that and that is when you should remain calm. The down has only been kept squashed by all the weight of the water. Once drying begins, it will return to its normal shape.

Do not despair!

Phase 3

This is the most important and decisive moment to be able to recover the down jacket. The most advisable thing is to carry out the drying in a dryer that has a program for synthetic clothes, as this way it is safer to put the feathers in place and regain their original quilted appearance.

You can put the tennis balls back in the dryer so that the down can move more freely. The ideal is to carry out more than two drying cycles so that the pen is completely dry and loose. To verify that it is as it should be, you must detail that the cells of the down jacket recover their natural padding and that when squeezed, they settle into place.

If you don't have a dryer, you can well dry it in the open air for at least four days. From time to time, whip the down jacket well so that the feathers do not get stuck or in the form of balls that you can never undo.

The most important thing is that it is completely dry! And if you cannot make the smell disappear or the cells remain in their original state, you can wash again or opt for the dry cleaner.

Luck!
