How to delete the PIN code in the settings

The standard way to remove a PIN in Windows 11 is to use the Remove PIN feature in Preferences. There may be some issues, which we will resolve as we go. The steps will be the following:

  1. Open Settings (you can use the Win + I shortcut), go to "Accounts" and open "Login Options".
  2. Click "PIN (Windows Hello)" and click "Remove" under "Remove this login option" and confirm the removal.
  3. If the "Delete" button is not active, under "Advanced options", uncheck "To increase security, allow Windows Hello login for Microsoft accounts on this device", then exit the "Startup options" screen Login 'in Settings, go back to it and the' Delete 'button should be available.

The "For increased security, allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device" option may not be disabled either, in which case:

  • Run the command line as administrator (Windows Terminal or PowerShell as administrator works too), and use the command
    reg ADD "HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionPasswordLessDevice" / v DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion / t REG_DWORD / d 0 / f
  • In the registration section
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionPasswordLessDevice

Change the parameter value DevicePasswordLessBuildVersion en

Once the changes are made, go back to the Login Options page in Settings and the 'Delete' button for the PIN will be available.
