Change the wireless network (Wi-Fi) name of the router

The name of the wireless network can be selected automatically or manually by the user when configuring the router. When interacting with network equipment later, you sometimes want to change this name so that the access point has a different SSID when it is displayed in the network list. It can only be done through the web interface by editing the corresponding parameters.

Login to the web interface

Next, three representatives of routers from different companies will be taken as an example, so that any user can understand the principle of the task, taking into account the peculiarities of the available Internet center. What all the variants have in common is the authorization in the web interface, which is done through the browser by entering 192.168.1.1 o 192.168.0.1. Password and login are individual parameters as they depend on the specific manufacturer and manual configuration. If the default value of the two administration fields is not suitable, we recommend that you read the following instructions.

Rename the router's wireless network

Surely you know that the implementation of the web interface depends on the company that issued the router. D-Link

First in line will be the D-Link web interface. It's because the vendor tried to stick to common standards and made minimal changes to the settings menu structure that many people are used to. There are two ways to change the Wi-Fi name in this web interface. The first is to start the Configuration Wizard and it looks like the following:

  1. After authorization, we advise to change the language to Russian to avoid further misunderstandings in the names of menu items.
  2. Then through the section "Starting". click on the line "Wireless network setup wizard".
  3. Select the operating mode "Access point". and move on.
  4. Now set a name for the access point. This setting is called SSID.
  5. It only remains to select the security mode, specifying a password if necessary.
  6. After the setup is complete, make sure the SSID matches the one you want, and then click "Apply".To save the changes.

When using the Wizard, you will have to go through the entire setup process, which is not always convenient for the user. There is also a separate section in the Internet Center where you can change just the name of the network, which we suggest you do.

  1. Via the left panel, navigate to the item "Wireless"..
  2. Here in the first category, change the SSID to the desired SSID and save the settings.
  3. If it is a client access point, the exact same editing is done on the "Customer"..

In case the network still hasn't changed its name after applying the changes, it is recommended to simply reboot the router to update the settings. It can also be done through the web interface or by pressing the button on the chassis.

TP-Link

TP-Link is one of the most popular network equipment manufacturers in the world. Its representation of the Internet center in the latest firmware versions is similar to that of D-Link, however some users may still encounter problems when searching for a parameter to change. The first option to configure the Wi-Fi name is through the configuration module.

  1. After entering the settings in the left panel, click on the inscription «Quick configuration»..
  2. Start this procedure by clicking "Next"..
  3. Mark the marker "Wireless router". and move on.
  4. Configure the WAN settings according to the instructions provided by your ISP. Correct execution of this setting is mandatory, which is the peculiarity of this option.
  5. The next step is called "Wireless mode".. Here, set the network name and configure the related parameters according to your needs.
  6. When viewing the configuration items, make sure that they all have the correct values and only then save the changes.

The downside to this method is the need to go through the entire setup process, including WAN setup, which in many cases is simply not necessary. Next, you need to go to the advanced settings, where the Wi-Fi renaming is done.

  1. In the menu on the left, open the section "Wireless mode".
  2. Change the value there. "Name of the wireless network." and save the changes.
  3. The same settings apply to the guest network.

ASUS

  2. After starting the module, click "Create a new network.".
  3. The type of connection should be determined automatically.
  4. When setting up a wireless network, give it an arbitrary new name and click "Apply"..

In manual mode, this process will take much less time to change the parameters, and we will not touch the rest of the settings.

  1. You can right in the category "Map of the network." Select an access point and change its name. If this does not suit you, through "Advanced settings". move to "Wireless network"..
  2. Find the element responsible for the name and return it.
  3. After applying the settings, check the current Wi-Fi name to make sure the settings are correct.
