Resolve Windows 7 boot problems due to aswvmm.sys file

Important information

Before going on to describe the method to solve the error, we must take into account an important nuance: despite the extension, the aswvmm.sys driver is not part of the operating system, but belongs to the real-time monitor of the antivirus suite avast. Therefore, the standard methods of recovery of the operating system will not work – you will have to proceed differently.

aswvmm.sys Removal

Since the failed driver is actually a third-party driver, it simply needs to be removed in order to boot the system. Another thing is that the method to do it is self explanatory.

    1. First of all, you need to prepare a Windows 7 bootable media - a CD or, preferably, a flash drive. Connect it to the target computer and start the boot. During the boot process, press the key F9 (may take a few tries) to get to the boot menu window.

      Keep in mind. In other BIOS the key may be different.

      When it appears, select the HDD/SSD drive or the flash drive with "sevens" written on it instead of the HDD/SSD.

    1. After the pre-boot, select the desired language (for example, Russian) in the installation tool and press "Following".
    2. In this window click on the link "System Restore.".
    3. Select the "seven" that is having trouble booting.

    2. Enter the command notepad and press I went into.

      Attention! Don't forget to change the layout to English with the hotkey Alt + Shift!

    3. When the window appears "Memo pad"Use the following items "File". - "Opened"..
    4. Change the display of file types to "Everyone"and then press "Computer".

  1. Open the operating system drive and go to WindowsSystem32.Here, go to the folder drivers.
  2. Find the file within the specified directory aswvmm.sys (by default, the recovery tool sorts data alphabetically, so it should be near the top of the list), select with a single left mouse click, then use Shift + Delete and confirm the deletion.
  3. Close all existing windows and when you return to the recovery tool, select the option "Rebound"..

After these manipulations the operating system should boot normally. Of course, the installed antivirus will give an error when it does not detect the required file in the required location – you can solve this problem by completely deleting it, preferably using a special utility.
