iOS 13 and higher

One of the many novelties of iOS 13 has been a minor change, but important in our case, in the App Store interface, from which the Updates tab has simply disappeared. Now in its place is the Arcade section, but it is still possible to update applications on the iPhone, and it is done almost as easily.

  1. Launch the App Store and, while in any of the first three tabs, click on your profile image located in the upper right corner.
  2. Scroll through the section that opens "Bill". a little to the block "Pending update"..

This is where you can both "Upgrade". any individual program on the list, and "Update all"..

In addition, it is possible to view information about the update by going to the page of the specific program. From there you can also start the update process.

  3. All you have to do now is wait for the new version of the application to download and install,

and then it will move to section "Recently Updated"..

At the end of the process, the block "Pending update". will disappear from the menu "Bill".to close this window, click on the legend "Done".. If you don't see a list like the one in the example above, all your programs are up to date.

  4. As you can see, it is not difficult at all to update an application on your iPhone although this function is now hidden in the not so obvious section of the Apple Store. The only downside is that you cannot immediately see the number of available updates, although sometimes this information can be useful.

iOS 12 and lower

In earlier versions of Apple's mobile operating system, solving our problem today was made even simpler and more obvious.

  1. When launching the App Store, you will immediately see if there are software updates available on your iPhone, and if so, how many are on the icon "Updates".On the bottom panel there will be a red "sticker" with a number. If it is there, go to that tab.
  2. Here you can both "Update all".and "Refresh". any individual application or each one, but one at a time.

You can read the description of the new version or its story beforehand by going to its page.

  3. Wait for the updates to download and install, the Store can be minimized while doing so.
  4. Before, it was even easier to update an app on iOS than it is now.

Enable automatic application update

If you don't want to manually check for software updates each time and install them yourself, you should turn on the automatic update feature. You can do it in the Apple ID settings.

  1. Ir a "Settings". iPhone and depending on the version of iOS installed, do the following
    • iOS 13Click on the first section of the list, your Apple ID, and from there select "ITunes Store and App Store.".
    • iOS 12In the main list of settings, go directly to "ITunes Store and App Store".
  2. Set the switch opposite the element to the active position "Software update"..
  3. Then, if you want, you can also configure whether or not the application will update via cellular data and, if so, how exactly. Read more about all the nuances in the next part of this article.
  4. Once this function is activated, the installation of software updates will run in the background without having to access the App Store, but that does not cancel the possibility of manually downloading them that we talked about before.

Updating apps and games without Wi-Fi

Many programs and especially games developed for the Apple operating system can be hundreds of megabytes or even gigabytes in size, and their updates are sometimes quite "heavy" as well. These volumes of data can be downloaded over Wi-Fi without problems, but it is not always possible to do so over the cellular network. The reason, as we know, lies in an old iOS limitation that does not allow downloading more than 200MB through the mobile network. But not everyone knows that in the current version of the operating system this ridiculous limit can be easily removed, and in the previous (12 and even older) it can be skipped. All the options available to solve this problem were described earlier in a separate article written on the example of games, but just as effective for programs.
